Ever since my daughter was born, I’ve taken her to Russel Street (cross street College Ave) for Halloween. Many of the houses on that street create amazing spectacles in front of their homes. Some of the displays are three stories tall and ingenious.
This is a must see for any new Berkeley student. It’s 3 blocks of Halloween bliss that often involves Hari Krishnas or the naked streaker dressed only in glow sticks wrapped around his body. I haven’t seen him in 2 years but maybe this year he’ll come around again.

What time does this go on until?
It starts early. All the little kids come around 5:30 and it goes on pretty late. I have never been there long enough to know but past 10 or 11 I would say. The bakery on the corner used to give out cookies before 6 but they stopped one year and don’t know if they are or aren’t doing that.
Thanks Susan. Sounds great!
You’re welcome!
Is Russell Street happening this year? I heard a rumor that it wasn’t.
Thanks,
Jennifer
Woe Jennifer. Those are some serious words. I can’t imagine that Russell Street would cancel… ever!
My interest in these matters are so strong that I intend on making it over to the fabled street for a quick look and possibly a knocking of a few doors today. I will report back so that everyone can get the definitive scoop here.
thanks!
Sure. See new post dated 10/28/2009.
What post?
Do you see it now? I posted last night. The entry is called “The Skinny on Russell Street Halloween”.
Actually street closes down at 8:30pm
Thanks Johnny. I will keep that in mind. I just remember being there much later in the past but maybe that’s the distortion of time on my memories.
